How and What to Submit

Welcome to the How to Submit page! The Round Table accepts short stories, poems, art, photography, editorials, and nonfiction. Please see the list below to check which category your piece falls into.

  • Writing should be attached separately in a Word or Google Doc. Art and photography can be attached as a .jpg file.

  • With each submission, please include your name, grade, and the category and title of your piece. If you wish to remain anonymous, please notify us. We will be happy to publish your piece anonymously.

  • Writing should be double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font- you know the drill. Same as English class. Please include the word count at the bottom of your piece.

  • Art and photography should be about 800 pixels wide (11 inches). We would prefer not to publish photos of art - please scan or digitize it before submitting.

  • Please make sure that all submissions are SCHOOL APPROPRIATE. All submissions will be screened before being put on the website, but it makes our life easier if you judge for yourself.

  • Please DO NOT plagiarize. If you are caught, you can face serious consequences. We want your original work!

  • Please note that when posting work on the Internet, there is no guarantee that it won't be stolen. :)

Short Stories

Fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, horror - we could go on. Write about anything you want - dragons, cyborgs, cats, oceans- we don't care. Just make sure it isn't real. For memoirs and true stories, check the Nonfiction category. Max 2500 words.

Poems

Poems, poems, poems. Write about lost love, marshmallows, sheep - whatever. Please do not format the poem into columns. No length limit.

Art and Photography

You can really go crazy with this one. Draw anything you might show your grandma without feeling embarrassed. You can send in a photo of your art, but it will appear better if the art is either digitized or scanned. Same goes for photography.

Editorials

This is all about opinions. Pour your heart out about goldfish (crackers or the animal, we don't have any preference), or maybe rant about how laggy your laptop is. Please note that all editorials will be carefully read before publishing- we will not publish anything that is offensive to anyone in this community. We are very sorry if we cannot publish your piece- perhaps try elsewhere! Max 2500 words.

Nonfiction

Submit anything but your essay on To Kill a Mockingbird. We take memoirs, personal stories, personal essays, book, movie, and music reviews. Write about the time you jumped off a cliff into a lake. Write about our terrible weather and how you wish you could move to Florida. Write about how you once did nothing but binge Netflix over spring break. Please submit argumentative essays as Editorials, not Nonfiction. Max 2500 words.
